Breathing
Spatialization program — MarseilleMaking the stage sound space flexible.
A performance by Liam Warren and Hugo Mir-Valette, "Breathing" presents an individual challenged by a tumultuous world. By exploring his breath, he tries to regain control of his being. Conceived as a duet improvisation, the dancer produces breaths captured and altered in real time by the musician.
The program, developed specifically for this performance, aims at making the spatialization of the sounds editable in a live context. The stage was to be an undefined place, an imaginary environment in which the moods of a writhing body are expressed. In this internal and mental space, breath reverberates in a strange way, giving the atmosphere a sense of the unreal and the distant.
This tool has been designed to fit in the most transparent way the musician's playing style, the ergonomics having to allow a quick management of the sound sources. Special attention has been given to the selection of the most relevant controls, and to the automation of certain parameters to achieve great simplicity of use.
